WNBA Bet Predictions - June 9, 2023
Day 3 of tracking each and every spread/total bet prediction... Current Record: 7-6-1.
Day 2’s betting article was a far greater success than our first day’s as we went 5-1 with a narrow loss in the last bet of the day preventing an undefeated record. The more games that get played in this league, the better of an idea we’ll have of what to expect when the lines are released, so there’s definitely a goal of improving as time goes on.
An important note on tonight’s matchups, the lines are TOUGH. One of those nights where we could realistically go 8-2 or 2-8. But that’s also kind of the fun of it all.
We’ve got a full slate tonight, so here’s a look at what today’s bets look like and what we’re thinking for them. Reminder, the goal is to hit around 60%.
*As always, these views are mine and mine alone.*
New York Liberty (4-2) @ Atlanta Fever (2-3)
Line: New York -6.5
O/U: 163.5
Today’s first game opens with two challenging picks that could truly go in either direction. Seeing as how we’re having to make choices, though, this feels like a good time to lean on the tried-and-true method of going with the more talented team to be, well, more talented.
New York brings far more talent to the floor and Marine Johannes’ return to its bench only adds to its depth. Though I’m still waiting on if Jonquel Jones’ offseason addition will bring anything more than 9.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in 18.3 minutes per game, this team is still getting used to each other. Atlanta is full of chuckers—players who throw the ball at the rim at an alarmingly inefficient rate—which lends its hand toward an over on the game total. But again, these two picks are a bit of a coinflip.
Pick: New York -6.5
Pick: Over 163.5
Phoenix Mercury (1-4) @ Dallas Wings (4-3)
Line: Dallas -5.0
O/U: 168.0
This is an interesting game as it puts one of sports betting’s most dangerous tendencies to the test. What am I referring to? The natural urge to bet on the team you like more simply because you like them more! Dangerous as always, yet… That’s what we’re doing here, everyone.
Now, this isn’t simply a pick-em game because Dallas has been my favorite squad to watch this season. Phoenix has a strong starting lineup but is consistently hindered by a poor bench and unpredictable Taurasi performances—2-14 from three against Dallas two nights ago. A six point win will require Ogunbowale to snap out of her shooting slump a bit, but I trust that far more than I trust the Mercury. But don’t forget, I also just really like the Wings.
Pick: Dallas -5.0
Pick: Over 168.0
